Handy little cheese press supplied in kit form, with all component parts provided. Assemble by following the simple details in the accompanying diagram to make your press ready for use.
Manufactured from deal wood, with adjustable lever positions so that the press can accommodate a wide range of cheese moulds. Simply hang weights (not supplied) on the notch provided in the handle to apply a constant pressure and so remove the whey from the curds.
The width between the wooden vertical sides is 160mm, whilst the height is 350mm, although the usable part will be more like 200 - 250mm. This still leaves enough room for a large cheese mould: our Mould 13 (130mm diameter x 110mm height) would easily fit and this makes a 1Kg cheese.
The cheese moulds are usually stood on a draining mat to allow the whey access to drain away and a 1 or 2 kg weight is sufficient to produce a firm dry curd. Obviously different weights and times produce different cheeses - this is what makes cheese making such an interesting and rewarding pastime!
